Happy 80th Pikey 3rd March - a few tribute

Posted 3rd March 2025

A few tributes to Mike Pike (Pikey) who has reached 80 years today. Pikey is the OWA Life President . There have only been 3 previous members who have held this accolade . What the heck idoes he do ? well he basically oversees everything and make certain we as a Sports club function & act in a way becoming of what we stand for ie family values , welcoming , competitive yet fair . Below are tributes from the cricket club .

Ive known Pikey my whole life . He been scoring up here longer than i've been alive ! He also did the football newsletter for a number of decades , writes pieces for trhe website (Pikey's Progress), is part of OWLS (Lunch club) & the gardening club . He is also part of the Arts Club that was formed to aid mental health , helps the school keep updated records of Old boys . He ridiculously approachable, hasnt got a bad word for anyone & has a genuine concern for people . A trade union man through & through & lastly run the Alf Parish Darts competition at his beloved Selhurst Park (end of march if you fancy getting ateam out ) - Pikey would love this plug

Happy birthday big man

Alex

Mike,

It is hard to know where to begin with putting together a message to you from the Old Wilsonians Cricket Club – partly as it is often your domain to craft this sort of message on behalf of us, but also as what you mean to us and the wider association is impossible to precis.

We know that you made it to the pages of Wisden for your unstinting commitment and the longevity with which you have supported the club but literally and figuratively – that was for 60 years and that was published before COViD! I am becoming an old git these days and there is a certificate in the scorebox congratulating you on 18 years scoring for OWCC dated the year I was born…..

Your commitment, passion and effort is a sight to behold for all of us and I know that the current generation of players cherish your support as much as the generation before them and the generation before…… Your lifetime of service to OWs is hugely appreciated and I can say without your input and that of a handful of others the club would be nowhere near what it is today.

I think I can speak for the Committee that your input to the running of the club and the time and effort you put in as secretary are much appreciated and again it is without doubt that which keeps us operating and achieving as a group.

On a personal note, I know that my life would be much harder without your help both in terms of chairing, but also in terms of scoring ensuring that we get as much covered as we can.

Thank you Mike – I, we, the association and the school are in your debt.

Dave Welch

Pikey, The one and only Pikey! Many congratulations on reaching 80 this year.

From the man who has witnessed (and indeed documented) many outstanding innings, this is undoubtedly a great knock! Memories together go back over forty years so I look forward to seeing you this summer to look back on maybe one or two – with you in the back of my Ford Fiesta as hurtled down to Whistable c. 1988 chief amongst them!

Many happy returns, Pikey, the Legend amongst OW Legends.

Well batted!                                                                                                                                     Karim

Wishing you a very happy 80th birthday. Enjoy your special day!                Kevin Carruthers

Very happy birthday wishes from me – to a man that has had lucky enough to be a Palace fan – I just wanted to add my message as to how thankful I am for all the time and effort you have given OWs and me over the years.                                                                                                    Louis

Happy Birthday Pikey! 80 Not out!

A great knock so far. Keep your head down and the years will keep coming
