Credit again to the skippers and the committee for their tireless efforts in delivering us an outstanding season. Fantastic to see the 1s continue their rebuild, getting promotion back into Senior Div 2 and particularly satisfying to see the likes of Leo and Mitch coming through and similarly with the 2s, though missing out on promotion, great to see a large group of OW juniors figuring out in the 2nd half of the season how to compete in Senior football, so congrats to Sam Wright and Jack Shelton in skippering those teams.
Shout out to Danny Mansfield too for his commitment in not only for bringing his former U18s Juniors successfully into the 2nd XI, but regularly promoting his better players into the 1s when asked This is the only way we function successfully as a club. We need the skippers to work together and understand that only by releasing the better players into the side above, and gladly accepting the players passed down in return, can we ensure the right strength sides in each league so that all sides are able to compete and we can be successful at all levels.
Thanks again to Danny and Sam James as well for another great season with regular training a key component of what's making us successful again. Sam in particular has been a great club captain and his infectious energy and enthusiasm has helped raise the levels at training and has set a great example for younger players to follow in terms of commitment, fitness and what it means to be an Old Wilsonian, regardless of what school you went to.
Congratulaions to Chris Dyki and his cup winning 5s, it's great to see their continued efforts to bring more and more Wilsons school boys into the club and being rewarded with silverware. And at the other end of age spectrum, congrats to the Vets for a solid first season in the SAL league and a cup run that so nearly ended in glory for a group of players widely considered (pound for pound) among the most talented in the club.
And final thanks are to Jamie, Yuved, Stu Dunk and Alex Forbes for the general management of the club. We have some difficult times ahead of us financially with increases to annual and match day subs unfortunately inevitable, and so the work that these guys do in ensuring the club is run efficiently is crucial in us being able to minimise this increase. Of course the other way to minimise subs increases is to spend more behind the bar, and to continue to support Chesney's social events, so I urge you all to be as active as possible both on and off the pitch to keep our great club in this healthy position. CJ reminded the meeting about the upcoming 5 a side and said he would need some help.
DS raised an issue with the way in which the junior club selected their teams. He wanted the senior club to get involved. JP said that he would discuss with DS offline.
