Club Activities
The Club runs teams in the North Kent League for adults and veterans, playing men’s, ladies’ and mixed matches in summer and winter. In addition, the club enters the National League, which is run by Kent Tennis, fielding several age-related junior teams. We also run some LTA-approved tournaments for youngsters in certain age groups. In 2020 we won the Kent Tennis Competition of the Year award.
Club sessions are held every Saturday afternoon with organised American tournaments being held from time to time in place of general club play. These sessions and tournaments are open to all full adult members and Juniors who are aged 11 and play with a yellow ball. There is also a Tuesday daytime club session.
Our Handicap Tournament starts in February and runs to mid-May. The Club Tournament will start on Monday 11 July and run until Finals Day on Saturday 18 September.
Dates of all other events, both social and tournaments, can be found in our Social & Tennis Calendar. Ad hoc events and any changed to the planned calendar will be
notified to members and displayed on the notice boards in the club hut, pavilion and main bar.
Members are encouraged to support as many organised tennis and social events as possible. A drink in the clubhouse bar is a terrific way to round off an evening of sport.
We also run a “100 Club” in which a prize draw is held every month. The minimum subscription is £1 per month. Please contact Martin Partridge for details.
Tennis Programme
We provide a wide range of coaching and competitive opportunities. Whatever your age, if you are just starting to learn or are an experienced player looking to improve your game we cater for your needs. There is a lot more information on our Coaching tab {HERE – to link to a Coaching tab which I need to write]
Our comprehensive set of safeguarding and inclusion policies [here] mean that everyone remains safe, and is treated fairly and with respect.
Competitions and Social
If you have a competitive streak you might wish to consider playing in one of our teams in inter-club competitions. We enter Men’s, Ladies’ and Mixed teams in the North Kent League as well as some Veterans’ teams. We also enter junior teams (from 8 & Under to 18 & Under) in the National League.
We hold regular club tournaments. Whilst the annual Club Tournament attracts our more serious players, most of the other tournaments are largely intended for fun. For example, the George Rice trophy is a mixed doubles competition completed on one day, where the combined ages of the 2 players must be at least 100. The Handicap Tournament includes singles, doubles and mixed, and the handicaps applied make the matches more competitive, giving everybody a chance. This encourages wider participation and helps members to meet and play with others who they might not usually see or play with.
For the youngsters we run Road To Wimbledon as well as regular competitive events alongside the coaching programme. And the older children are encouraged to join in with adult social play as soon as their standard means they remain safe.
Alternatively, if you are looking to play just for fun – to get some exercise and enjoy the fresh air – you’ll be able to come along to our club sessions. These take place every Tuesday afternoon from 1:30pm and Saturday afternoon from 2p.m. . There is also a mixed doubles club session on a Friday evening from 7pm. Play consists of short matches played with other club members on a rotating basis. Organising regular American tournaments at these sessions provides an alternative structure at these club sessions. Afterwards you can retire to the bar for drinks and a chat.
Tennis balls are provided free of charge and floodlighting (when needed) is a nominal £8ph charge for club social play.
